LAST CHESS CLUB OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR

The last chess club of this School year will be on Monday 22nd of June 2009.

Chess club would normally end in July,but Mr Harding (the chess coach)is going in to hospital to have an operation during the end of June, and will be out of action for a few weeks.

Chess club will restart in September when the School opens.

REDBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL CHESS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

The second day of the 2009 Redbridge Primary School Chess Team Chamionship, was hosted by Newbury Park Primary School on Thursday 11th of June.
Some excellent chess was played by all the Schools.

Newbury Park won the tournament but Fairlop came second.
The Fairlop team was Shagilan,Chen,Sam,Nilaa,Hareshaa,Vinosha,Robert and Mernan.
Well done Newbury Park.
Well done to all the Fairlop players.

BEST EVER YEAR AT BASILDON

The final results have been logged and Fairlop chess club has had it's best Basildon tournament ever.
The UKchess challenge county tournament for Essex is held in Basildon each year.
This year Fairlop chess club achieved.

3 second places
Mernan u7 boys
Shagilan u10 boys
Hareshaa u10 girls

2 third places
Vinosha u9 girls
Nilaa u10 girls

2 fourth places
Sam u10 boys
Chen u11 boys

Also 4 players qualified to the National finals.

This is a fantastic achievement for the chess club as the players worked very hard during the build up to the tournament.

SHAGILAN FAIRLOP CHAMPION 2009

From February half term chess club has been running a School qualifing tournament for the UK Chess challenge.
Each player plays 7 games of chess and the highest point scorers qualify to the County Championship stage of the event,in Fairlops case Basildon in Essex.

Shagilan finished as Fairlop School Champion with 21 points out of 21
7 wins 0 draws 0 loses,a fantastic result well done to him.
Nilaa,Hareshaa,Vinosha,Chen,Sam,Cheran,Mernan and Shagilan qualified to the county Championship stage.
Play at Basildon is tough as only the top 10% of Essex players qualify.
Some very good chess was played and all Fairlop players won games.

Hareshaa came 2nd in the under 10 girls section.
Mernan came 2nd in the under 7 boys section.

Shagilan finished 3rd in the boys under 10 section.

Nilaa finished 4th in the girls under 10 section
.

4 players qualified from this event to the National final in Berkshire in early July.

Sam and Nilaa missed out on qualifing by just 1/2 a point.

ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER PLAYED

This game was played in Paris during 1858. Between the American chess champion Paul Morphy and a Duke and a Count.
It was played at the Opera and Morphy had is back to the stage while the Opera was in progress.

REDBRIDGE SCHOOLS TEAM TOURNAMENT 2009

The first stage of the 2009 Redbridge chess team tournament took place on Thursday 26th March at Fairlop School.

In round 1 Fairlop narrowly lost to john Bramston 2-3.
Shagilans game was the last to finish with the score at 2-2,he had chances to draw right up to the end but Jamie from John Bramston was to strong in the endgame.

Fairlop got back to winning ways in round 2 by beating Redbridge 3-2 in a close and exciting match.

Fairlop goes into stage 2 with 5 points and in 3rd place out of 6 teams,behind John Bramston on 7.5 points and tournament leaders Newbury Park on 8.5 points.

Shagilan,Nilaa,Hareshaa,Menan and Vinosha made up the Fairlop team, well done to them, they played some very good chess.

The second stage of the tournament will be held at Newbury Park School in May.
